The City of Savannah levies a tax on tangible personal property used in a trade or business located within the city on January 1 of each year. Returns must be filed in person by 5:00PM, April 1 of current tax year. Payment must be made in the 4th quarter.
Every individual, partnership, corporation and company desiring to engage in retail business in Georgia must file an application and obtain a sales tax identification number.
A return must be filed showing the gross sales, gross proceeds, or cost prices arising from all taxable transactions during the preceding month. A return must be filed regardless if a tax is due.
Every individual, partnership, corporation, and company with at least one employee in Georgia must file an application and obtain a withholding tax identification number. Returns and the amount of state tax withheld from an employee must be filed during the following month. A return must be filed regardless if no state tax was withheld.
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that IRS assigns in the following format: XX-XXXXXXXX. The IRS uses the number to identify taxpayers that are required to file business tax returns. EINs are used by employers, sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, nonprofit associations, trusts, estates of decedents, government agencies, certain individuals and other business entities.
